Planning what to pack for a trip can be one of the hardest things to get sorted before you leave. Do you take boots, or flats? Flip flops or running shoes? The type of shoes you take will depend a lot on the type of trip you’re doing, but for me I always take a few key pieces to ensure that I’m ready for any occasion or any location. It’s hard finding a balance between being prepared and keeping precious baggage storage free to buy things while you’re away. Here are my suggestions for essential shoes to take along with you on your trip.
1) High Quality Boots
If you have a comfortable pair of boots they can be a great piece to take along with you, especially if you’re going to cooler climates. I always suggest wearing them on the plane, so that they don’t take up a lot of baggage space, especially if they’re higher styled boots. For some sturdy ladies boots, that look for almost every occasion check out Rieker Boots or leather ankle boots. I really like leather ankle boots as they don’t take up that much room, but can still be warm and snuggly when you’re somewhere cold.
2) Some Good Walking Shoes
If your boots are not perfect for spending long days in, it might be a good idea to bring a pair of shoes that you can wear on days where you’ll be hitting the pavement. Personally, I often bring sports shoes with me as the support they provide is outstanding. When packing, I fill them with little bits and pieces to save on storage space. Try to find a pair that you’ll like to wear during the day, but can see yourself hitting the gym with or going on a run with.
3) Something a Little Fancy
I usually take a pair of flats or a nice pair of heels if I know I’m going to be going somewhere where I may find myself invited to something a little special. You need something tidy that you can wear to a fancy restaurant, or a nice night out, so if the opportunity presents itself you’re more than ready. Splash out and get something quality, as the first two pairs of shoes you pack will be doing most of the mileage.
4) Sandals or Beach Shoes
If you’re headed somewhere warm, with a pretty coastline, you’re going to want to bring something that you can wear without socks and wont be worried about treating them a little roughly. I made the mistake of forgetting my sandals when I went to the Greek islands, and let me just say that wearing a pair of sports shoes along the beach is not only uncomfortable but frustrating, too! If you get a nice pair of sandals, they can double for special occasions too.
