London based video production company ToastTV has recently created an excellent video about toast. “Harry Harryman”, an innovation intern for the company explains all about the invention- using drones to deliver toast to hungry people near and far (mostly near).
Personally, I think the whole concept is hilarious, and would love if someone would deliver me toast by drone in the morning (can I grab a latte as well?) but the video itself is stellar, with an excellent script and a humour that manages to skim the line between slapstick and sarcastic.
The funny YouTube video draws attention to video production in London, which is now being done more cost-effectively than ever with TV commercial companies like ToastTV filling the gap between production companies and advertising agencies. This means that customers get to talk directly to the people who are actually making the ads, and since it’s also a more flexible, quicker, and cheaper option compared to hiring a traditional advertising agency, the only thing missing is the hefty price tag.
I love the way the video combines something we all love- toast, with something we’re all interested in drones. The fact that Harry has a number of different spreads and then talks about the challenges of sourcing parts (as he’s shooting those parts out of the sky) had me cracking up, and I think these types of videos that provide value or entertainment are a much better advertisement for a variety of companies compared to the typical boring advertisements that we watch every day.
Many people assume that TV advertising is dead, but this is simply not the case. Keep in mind that many people are watching TV on YouTube and are now used to seeing advertisements, and for companies that have eye-catching adverts, they’ll receive excellent ROI. Along with a return on investment that’s close to £1.80 for each £1 a company spends on advertising, businesses will be driving sales, building consumer trust and brand awareness, and crucially- doing all of these things for far less than if they were paying an agency.
Along with choosing a company who can create a top-notch video that gets in front of the eyes of potential and current customers, businesses can get in front of more people by doing a few simple things.
The first is influencer outreach. This is when a company finds influencers in their industry, builds relationships with those influencers, and if they like the product or service, they’ll often give the company access to their loyal audiences. This type of outreach is invaluable when you’re building a brand, and should definitely be a high priority once you’ve developed an excellent video.
Next, you want plenty of shares on social media. Facebook is a great way to do this at the moment since videos tend to play automatically when people are scrolling through their feed- so once you get some traction it can build quite quickly.
