The UK gets a rather unfair reputation of having ridiculously grey and cold weather no matter what month of the year. Now, yes, this is true, however when you get a good day in the UK, it’s a seriously beautiful time to visit! I can say this, because I am from England, so any mention of weather from me is quite reliable. Having said that, any mention of places to visit is also quite reliable.
There are countless unmissable destinations that span across the area, many in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, and talking about them all is quite impossible. Because of that, here are five unmissable places to visit during your time in the UK, whether you need an umbrella or not!
The Peak District
In the heart of Derbyshire, part of England, you will find a beautiful and raw stretch of national park, called the Peak District. If you love walking then this is for you, but there are also many photography fans who head here to capture the beauty. You’ll find quaint towns and villages across the rolling and sometimes very hilly stretch of land, with fast-changing weather conditions, and many small pubs for a country lunch too.
You can’t not visit London during your time in the UK. The hip, fashionable, and seriously iconic capital city offers countless activities and sights to see. This is an exhausting city to visit however, simply because it’s so spread out, so you might need to head to somewhere a little quieter and chilled out afterwards, to recover your feet and mind!
North of the border, up in Scotland, you will find Edinburgh and its beautiful scenery. Edinburgh Castle is one of the top destinations to visit in the whole of the UK, and if you can visit during the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, or Hogmanay, then you will see its beauty and then some. The countryside outside of the city itself is breath-taking, with the Firth of Forth not too far away.
On England’s south-west coast you will find the surfing heaven of Newquay. This part of the UK is where you will find untamed, wild beauty, with beaches which look like they should belong on the continent. Just outside of the town you are within a stone’s throw of Land’s End and Tintagel, and you can enjoy the unique flavour of a Cornish cream tea.
Blackpool is a little like Marmite, you either love it or you hate it, but you have to try it at least once. This is situated on England’s north-west coast and is a true seaside experience. Think Punch & Judy shows, fish and chips, sticks of rock, and donkey rides, and you’re not far wrong. The night-life here is cabaret and camp, and you have to enjoy a ride or two on the pier.
These are just five must-visit destinations in the UK; there are countless more you could incorporate into a longer visit, giving you a true overview of this beautiful and very varied part of the world.
